WHAT IT IS: 

Peyronie’s disease is the abnormal formation of fibrous limps (plaque) in the erectile tissue of the penis. Over time the plaque can grow and deform the penis when it is erect and cause a curve.

It usually affects the top side of the penis and occasionally the underside. Penile infection or injury can lead to Peyronie’s disease, but in most cases the cause is unknown.

Peyronie’s Disease can be as a result of genetics (family history), or due to an injury to the penis.

The condition is most common in middle-aged men. Peyronie’s disease affects around 3% of men aged between 30-60 years old.

• Bent penis

• Penile Curvature

SYMPTOMS: 

• A small localised ache or discomfort felt within the penis

• A lump formed at the site of the ache

• The plaque contracts as it spreads, bending or kinking the erect penis towards the affected side

• Erections become uncomfortable or painful

• Erections are softer than usual

• There may be one or several plaques

TREATMENT: 

Peyronie’s Disease can be treated with surgery. Surgery may be offered as an option for men who do not responds to conservative or medical therapy and are having difficulty with sexual intercourse.
